Two types of FutureCast systems:
Passive vs Active
The main difference between the Active and Passive systems is what is enclosed in the junction box(es). On a passive system, the junction box will be essentially empty except for terminated cabling, for use when an SMT Technician comes to take readings.
On an active system, the junction box will host automated measurement electronics with an internet gateway to send all data to the cloud. Typically junction boxes are installed on a deck by deck basis, or in a single centralized location. See Passive VS. Active junction box examples below. Continue scrolling to learn more
An active system is constantly collecting data and uploading it to the online monitoring center where data is stored and accessed from any web browser.
In the event a deficiency in the membrane is found, the system can notify the client of the deficiency by sending an alert to their email. This allows proactive and targeted repairs before a leak develops into a large-scale problem.
NOTE: An Active system does NOT mean SMT is actively monitoring the data, just that the system is actively taking readings and logging data. SMT engagement would require a monitoring contract with SMT.
A passive system is left dormant, it does not take any readings or store any data from the sensors.
This system requires an SMT technician to visit the site to temporarily activate the system as scheduled with the client, typically 1-4 times a year and/or for an active leak investigation.
An SMT technician activates the system by bringing portable electronics to site, accessing the junction box(es), and activating the sensors to start taking readings. Once this has been done, a technician then compiles the data of your roof’s membrane into an easily digestible report.
